The top-seeded team in the North half of Section 6A, the Henning Hornets, hosted Underwood on Wednesday night in a second round playoff contest.  Henning led 47-35 at the half and went on to record an 82-61 victory.

“March is different, and tonight was definitely a playoff atmosphere,” observed Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “Underwood was very well prepared and played a tremendous game. This was a great test for us going into a difficult game Saturday.”

Henning hit 51% (31-61) of their shots and 40% (9-22) of their 3’s.  Tyson Misegades and Mason Hammer led all scorers with 24 points each, while Kale Misegades finished with 21.  Lane Dilly pulled down a team high 12 rebounds and also had 3 steals to go along with his 7 points.  Tyson Misegades also had 3 steals, while Kale Misegades distributed a team high 8 assists.  Hammer dished out four assists in the game.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our guys tonight,” said Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck.  “They played very hard, and executed our game plan we had in place.  We were able to cut their second half lead to 11 with about 7 minutes to go, and again to 12 with just over 4 minutes to go, but just couldn’t get over the hump.”

Leaders for Underwood were Drew Evavold with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Hudson Risbrudt with 12 points and 3 steals, Cole Peterson with 11 points and 5 rebounds and Owen Harig with 7 points.  Evan Lundgren was the assist leader with 5.  Underwood had a good shooting night, making 52% (20-36) of their shots overall and hitting 8-of-13 (61%) from beyond the arc.

“Our kids had a great season, and handled themselves so well throughout the ups and downs that come with a full season of basketball,” added Coach Shebeck.  “Our seniors will be sorely missed next year as they were excellent leaders, doing everything that was asked of them.  They are leaving this program in a better place, and their footprint will be left her for years to come.  Jayden Harig, Cole Peterson and Jack Parker have a bright future ahead of them!”

Underwood ends the season with a record of 11 wins and 16 losses.

Henning takes a 26-1 record into their quarterfinal round game against Hillcrest Lutheran Academy at 1:00pm Saturday at ‘The Hive’ in Perham.
