The Henning girls’ basketball team returns a wealth of varsity experience off a successful 17-10 season a year ago, making for some optimism in 2022-23.  Mike Hepola returns for his 24th year at the helm.  He will be assisted by BJ Fisher, Ida Rogers-Ferguson and Matt Thorson.

“We return all but one player from last year’s team and will be looking at that experience to carry us in hopefully a successful season at both the conference and section levels,” acknowledged Coach Hepola.  “We should have a nice balance of inside and outside game on offense, but our biggest key is playing good, solid team defense and limiting the opponents to one tough shot on that defensive end.”

Seniors Faith Fisher (G), Ally Hart (G), Lily Fraki (G) and junior Lyvia Misegades (F) are returning starters, along with senior Becca Frederick (G) who only played one game last season due to an injury.  Other letter winners back include seniors Natalie Eckhoff (G) and Aaliyah Olson (G), and junior Alivia Gunderson (G).

Newcomers to the varsity are seniors Ava Eckhoff (F) and Gretchen Eckhoff (G), and junior Ella Missling (G).

“Our section is definitely one of the tops in Class A with defending State Champ Hancock the favorite, but a very good Underwood team will definitely challenge, while Wheaton and New York Mills will also field very competitive teams as well,” added Hepola.  “We hope to be in the conversation as well.  In the Park Region Conference it should be interesting with several teams battling for that top spot.”
