Two former Section 6A football standouts are having a great year as teammates in the MIAC.  Nick VanErp, who played for Ottertail Central and Cooper Yaggie, a former Breckenridge Cowboy have been key members of the Johnnies during their run to the number 4 ranking in the final D3football.com top 25 poll of the regular season.

SJU won its MIAC-record 36th conference championship and earned the league’s automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III playoffs with a 28-10 win over Bethel on Saturday, November 12 in Collegeville.

The Johnnie’s defense recorded five interceptions and held the Royals to 49 yards rushing in the victory.  Yaggie, a sophomore linebacker, intercepted two passes, returning his first pick 61 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter.  He also led SJU with 11 tackles (six solo), including two for a loss, one sack, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry.

Offensively, VanErp, a senior wide receiver, caught 10 passes for 147 yards and a TD.

The Johnnies (9-1, 7-1 MIAC) play host to Northwestern (6-4, 6-0 UMAC) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs at noon this Saturday in Clemens Stadium.
