The Minnesota State High School Golf Tournaments are underway with the Class A Girls playing at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, the Class AA Girls playing at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan and the Class AAA Girls playing at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.

Fergus Falls shot a team score of 357, good for second place in Class AA behind Lake City who registered a score of 330.  Pequot Lakes and Providence Academy are tied for third at 362, followed by Minnewaska Area 366, St. Crois Lutheran Academy 382 and Jordan 397.

The Otters have two players tied for ninth place after the first day as Annika Jyrkas and Ellia Soydara each recorded rounds of 83.  Olivia Jurgens is tied for 47th place after shooting 95 and Annie Mayer is tied for 51st place with a 96.  Ella Mayer and Lexi Metcalf round out the Fergus Falls scoring with rounds of 99 and 105, respectively.

"The conditions and course was set up difficult," said Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  "The heat and wind provided tough conditions and several pin placements were suspect.  We know we have more in us than we showed today so I hope the rain and thunderstorms stay away for day two.  Both Annika and Ella had very nice rounds today.  Their 83's were very much under control.  Olivia had a great round for us.  Her 95 saved us four team strokes and really served as a bonus."

Mallory Belka of Perham leads the tournament after firing a 76 on Tuesday.  Julian Brown of Redwood Valley is second at 78 and Anna Eckmann of Park Rapids Area is tied for third with her 79.

Sophie Cook of Hawley shot an 84 and Crookston golfer Grace Fischer came in with a 105.

Alexandria is leading the Class AAA team competition with a score of 318 and Maple Grove is second at 327.  They are followed by Eastview 331, Elk River 338, Edina 341, Eden Prairie 344, Lakeville South 353 and Stillwater Area 356.

Kathryn VonArragon of Blaine shot an amazing 7-under par 65 to take a huge lead in the individual competition.

The lady Cards are led by Cora Larson, who is tied for fifth after her 75, and Hannah Boraas, tied for eighth with a 76.  Rounding out the scoring for Alexandria were Lauren Rebrovich 80, Aisling O’Connor 87, Rachel Bowen 91 and Ella Sticha 92.

“It was a very warm and windy day at Bunker Hills Golf Club,” stated Alexandria Head Coach Tim Zupfer.  “Scoring was difficult for most of the players, however, four individual qualifiers played the course under par.  We will tee it up again Wednesday afternoon hoping to post a score that challenges the rest of the field.”

Legacy Christian Academy shares the first round lead with Lac qui Parle Valley in Class A as both teams shot team scores of 354.  Park Christian School is third at 368, followed by Fillmore Central 393, North Woods 395, Fertile-Beltrami 410, Sleepy Eye United 446 and Murray County Central 450.

Emily Brandt of Legacy Christian Academy has the Class A lead with a score of 81, while Isabella Jacobs of Lac qui Parle Valley is second with an 84.
