Eagles Run Winning Streak to 3 Games with Victory Over Henning

By Craig Olson, 02/13/21, 12:15PM CST

Tate Olson registered a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds on Friday night to lead the New York Mills boys’ basketball team to a 61-32 victory over the Henning Hornets.  Olson also had 3 blocked shots.  He was joined in double figures by Derin Gaudette with 10 points.

"Our defense won this game.  We didn't shoot the ball incredibly well but our boys gave tremendous effort on the defensive side of the ball.  We made it tough on them all night," commented New York Mills Head Coach Jason Boe.

Noah Noffsinger (9 points, 7 rebound, 4 steals), Jonah Johnson (8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) and Breck Hensch (6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) also contributed to the win.

“We competed hard, but our inexperience playing in high-level games showed up tonight,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “We shot a woeful 16% from the floor. We allowed New York Mills to force us into playing faster than we are comfortable. They are a quality team and deserve a lot of credit for our offensive struggles.”

Mason Hammer and Tyson Misegades led the Hornets with 11 and 10 points, respectively.  Tanner Arndt added 7 points, 4 steals and 3 rebounds.  Ethan Houselog had a team high 10 rebounds.

The loss snapped a 3 game winning streak for Henning (6-3).  The Hornets will play at Verndale on Thursday.

New York Mills (7-2, 6-1 PRC) has now won three straight games.  They will be at Bertha-Hewitt on Thursday and at Browerville/Eagle Valley on Friday.
