Cooper Yaggie threw for a pair of touchdowns to Jacob Vizenor, ran for over 100 yards and booted four extra points to lead Breckenridge to a 42-16 victory over Ottertail Central on Friday night in Battle Lake.

The Bulldogs struck first on their home field as quarterback Tanner Arndt raced 65 yards on their first offensive snap.  After a two-point conversion run by Arndt OTC had an 8-0 lead just 1:40 into the game.

Breckenridge responded on their next possession when Yaggie connected with Vizenor for their first TD pass, covering 35 yards.  The Yaggie PAT kick trimmed the OTC lead to 8-7 with 9:11 left in the opening quarter.  The Cowboys took a 14-8 lead on Yaggie’s 80 yard strike to Vizenor and his second extra point kick with 5:07 left in the first.  The Cowboys increased their lead to 21-8 at 7:58 of the second quarter when fullback Daniel Erlandson ran the ball in from 3 yards out and Yaggie was true on yet another extra point kick.

Following that third TD by Breckenridge, Ottertail Central went on a drive that started on their ow 22 yard line, featured 12 plays and two fourth down conversion, but ended with a fumble on the Cowboys 4 yard line, stopping any momentum the Bulldogs were hoping to take into halftime.

After OTC was stopped on 3 plays to start the second half, Breckenridge scored at 9:40 of the third on an 11 yard run by Chris Nieto and a Nieto run for the two-point conversion to make the score 29-8.

The Bulldogs answered, covering 61 yards in eight plays, resulting in a 3-yard touchdown run by Drew Durbin and an Arndt to Brady VanErp two-point conversion pass to close the game to 29-16 with 5:57 remaining in the third.

Just over a minute later the Cowboys scored on another Nieto run of five yards which came on the heels of a 40-yard run by the senior back to setup the score.  The two-point conversion try failed and it was 35-16, Breckenridge.  The only score of the fourth quarter was a 2 yard run by Erlandson, scoring his second touchdown of the night.  Yaggie kicked the extra point, putting the final score at 42-16.

Yaggie (8 attempts, 109 yards), Nieto (10 carries, 95 yards, 2 TDs) and Erlandson (7 carries, 32 yards, 2 TDs) led a ground game that finished with 246 yards on the night.  The Cowboys added 115 yards passing with Yaggie completing 2-of-5 passes and Vizenor hauling in both passes.  That gave Breckenridge 361 yards of total offense.

For OTC, Arndt was 4-for-11 for 44 yards.  He also ran for 78 yards on 10 carries.  OTC had 197 rushing yards and 44 passing yards for a total of 241 yards of offense.  Calvin Stueve (12 carries, 54 yards) and Durbin (10 carries, 42 yards) combined for 96 yards on the ground.

Breckenridge travels to Roseau and Ottertail Central will play at Pillager in their next contests.  Both games have 3:00pm start times on Thursday afternoon.
