Blake Wallevand enjoyed great success in his high school sports career, playing basketball for the Henning Hornets and being a member of the Ottertail Central Bulldogs football team with both Henning and Battle Lake student athletes on the team.

“My favorite sports memory was winning the Class A State Boys Basketball Championship with my best friends and coming home to celebrate,” said Wallevand.

“Blake had been a mainstay in our basketball program for a long time and improved each year,” stated Head Boys Basketball Coach Randy Misegades.  “He was a 4-year letter winner and 3-time all-conference player.  This year he was a captain, voted Park Region Conference MVP, and also earned academic all-state honors.  Blake helped our teams win three consecutive PRC titles, two section 6A titles, and a state championship.  In four years on the varsity, Blake helped our teams to 86 wins, including a record of 60-2 during his junior and senior campaigns.”

Blake is all over the career record books in Henning Boys Basketball history.  He ranks 10th in career rebounds with 516, 2nd in career assists with 427, 2nd in career steals with 320, and 5th in career points with 1,358.  Blake is an honor student with a GPA over 3.8 and member of the National Honor Society. His favorite subjects in high school were Fitness Training and English.

“Being in sports has taught me so many amazing life lessons like how to appreciate every day we get to play the sports we love,” commented Wallevand.  “This spring I have been dealing with not being able to play by getting into different activities such as disc golf that will allow for social distancing.”

Blake is going to NDSU to pursue his Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

“Blake is a great competitor in whatever he is doing,” commented OTC Football Coach Eric Olson. “He has contributed greatly to our football program by what he does on and off the field.”

His favorite quote is from his Head Coach, who is also his uncle, Randy Misegades, “Never take a day that you get in this life for granted, because we never know if the next is guaranteed or if you will get to see the ones you love again.”
