Battle Lake senior Thomas Himmelspach has been active in cross country, basketball and track and field while in high school.  He ranks his top sports memory as a trip to the MSHSL State Track and Field meet as an Ottertail Central Bulldog.

Head Track Coach Brady Speicher shared this about Himmelspach, “Thomas has the leadership qualities and work ethic that you wish every athlete had. Distance running is a sport where success comes on being able to hold yourself and your teammates accountable. Thomas was able to do that not only with his closest peers, but he was also able to relate to our younger runners and be a role model to them and show how hard work pays off. Thomas was able to lead his teams to a conference championship in XC, and a state track 4x800 appearance.”

“This spring it’s been tough not getting to see my friends, but I’ve spent more time virtually interacting with them to try to compensate,” shared Himmelspach.  “Being involved in sports has provided a good time and place for me to make friends, spend time with them, keep in shape, and enjoy a fun activity after school.”

Thomas enjoyed History, Band and Physical Education classes at Battle Lake High School.  He plans on attending NDSU in Fargo in the fall and will major in Architecture.

Battle Lake Boys Basketball Coach CJ Peeters said, “Thomas is a hard working team player that is so essential to any team. He has such a great attitude and willingness to try and continue to get better every day. He has a great personality and is a joy to have around. He will be missed."

His advice to underclassmen is, “Sports are a great time to be with friends, and to me that is the biggest reason, among many, to be a part of a team.  I’d like to encourage any underclassmen who are thinking about sports, to go for it!  It’s a great experience.”
