The Henning boys’ basketball team led 52-34 at the half and went on to post an 84-70 victory over Ada-Borup West on Saturday at the Breakdown Classic in Perham.

“This was a really fun night in front of another great crowd,” stated Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “The Breakdown and Perham High School created a great atmosphere.  It was fun to see our guys get into such a nice flow and shoot the ball so well in the first half.  In the second half we got a bit tentative and sloppy at times and A-B cut the lead to single digits. But we made enough plays down the stretch to get it done.”

Blake Wallevand led five players in double digits with 18 points, making 7-of-10 field goal attempts and 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc.  Wallevand surpassed 1,000 career points in the game.  Parker Fraki, Isaac Fisher, Blaine Wallevand and Brandon Trana each had 15 points on the night.  The Hornets made 56% (32-57) of their field goal attempts and hit 12-of-24 from 3-point range for 50%.  Fraki had a team high 7 rebounds and 8 assists.  He also blocked a shot.  Fisher dished out 6 assists and Blake Wallevand came up with 5 steals.

“Ada-Borup West is a very, very good team and well coached,” said Coach Misegades. “They play extremely hard. This was a great win for our kids and our basketball program. Congrats to Blake Wallevand for surpassing the 1,000 point mark tonight for his career. He has been fortunate to play on some great teams that helped him get there. It couldn’t happen to a better kid. The fact that he is my nephew makes it a little extra special.”

Preston Gwin poured in 34 points to lead the Cougars and Mason Miller added 22.

Henning is now 9-1 on the season.  They will travel to Wadena on Tuesday night and will play New York Mills on Saturday at 2:30pm at Verndale High School.
